Radio 1 Big Weekend case study
When Radio 1’s Big Weekend headed to Dundee from 26th – 28th May Qdos Event Hire was on hand to support the event’s organiser Festival Republic. In excess of 500 cabins, toilets, showers and stores were supplied for the festival’s build, open days and de-rig.
Our experienced team was onsite from the 12th May siting the units around Camperdown Park. This included cabins ranging in size from 20’ to 40’; luxury vacuum toilet trailers; showers; offices; hospitality suites and stores installed in the production compound, backstage areas, four stages and the boneyard. These were utilised by the production team, event control, suppliers, artists, broadcasters and press.
Additional cabins and ticket offices in the main arena, along with male, female, mixed, gender neutral and accessible toilets for use by the 80,000 festival goers. We also provided a team of 12 cleaning attendants during the festival’s show days.
It was the first outing for our Changing Places unit, a purpose-built accessible unit designed specifically to improve inclusivity and ensure that everyone has access to high quality welfare facilities onsite at events. Generously proportioned, there is plenty of space to accommodate a wheelchair, a user and two carers. The 6m x 3m unit comes complete with extra wide doors, toilet, sink, shower, hoist, drop-down rails, alarm pull cord and audible/visual exterior alarm.
Artists taking to the stage during the three day event included Jess Glynne, Jonas Brothers, Joel Corry, The 1975, Tom Grennan, Anne-Marie and Mimi Webb.
Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events at VisitScotland, said: “We were delighted to support Dundee City Council host the eagerly anticipated Radio 1’s Big Weekend. Congratulations to all the incredible teams involved in making the weekend a great success, and indeed the audiences who welcomed an array of top-talent across the weekend.”
